When I’m asked what my favorite neighborhood in Charleston is, the answer comes very easy to me- Harleston Village. Hands down.
I am most definitely biased because that’s where I live. But I literally love living here SO much. It’s SUCH a livable neighborhood, if that makes sense. This neighborhood is for everyone and anyone- from young professionals, to families with children, to those retired just enjoying life.
One thing I appreciate most is the ability to walk, or take a quick golf cart ride over to get my favorite breakfast ever at Harken Cafe (butter me up biscuit add avocado!!!!!). If I want quick, I’ll go get my go to latte at second state really quick (brown sugar oat milk latte- omg so good).
Probably my favorite aspect is living so close to Colonial Lake. I love Colonial Lake. The amount of laps I’ve done in the morning, mid afternoon, or even evening sometimes just talking and catching up to my parents, brother, and friends who I don’t see as often as I wish, is a million. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to do. You’re never alone on Colonial either- there are always people out walking their dogs, getting some sun, or on mile 3 of their run. (I’m pretty sure 4 laps around the lake is equivalent to a mile- I forgot who told me that but I’m pretty positive that’s true)
I also have taken a blanket over to the grassy areas beside the lake and brought my laptop and worked, read or just sun bathed listening to a podcast. It’s so good.
Around the holidays they celebrate and do a “lights on the lake” event, where there are a billion Christmas lights, tents, hot chocolate, and fake snow. They do a count down and light up the tree that’s in the middle- it’s a cute tradition.
The Battery Park is also under a mile from the Village. EASILY the best place to watch the sunset over the Charleston Harbor.
Lastly I do want to talk about location in regards to the peninsula. You honestly can’t beat it, in my opinion. You are half a mile to King Street (shopping district) passing my FAVORITE restaurant, Basic Kitchen- I’ll do a whole other blog post about BK), so I can easily run to H&M for a last minute outfit, Sephora if I'm out of setting spray, or Target for some wine on a random Thursday night.
Actually, I lied because that’s where J&W Grocery comes in. If you know, you know.
Let’s also not forget the fact that Costa just opened underneath the Jasper (Ugh- Alcove Market, too. Best little coffee spot after walking Colonial in the AM- it’s right across from the lake, underneath The Jasper as well). Costa is a yummy little neighborhood Italian restaurant with a vibey bar.
